Friend Clif ;D asks this question over on his blog. Should the State legalize gambling in order to take a cut?
Gambling is not just a vice, say I; it is an empty vice, profiteering on ignorance and faulty brain wiring. Promoting games for fools and suckers. Me, I favor growing revenues from state-run houses of prostitition and from marijuana distribution instead. Value received for value given. At least state-licensed hookers will have a health and dental plan and retirement benefits, and we'll put some drug dealers out of business.

Put another way, gambling has no redeeming social value other than separating fools from their money.
Prostitution at least is a social activity that gets people off the internet and offers a little exercise.
Smoking marijuana grown legally in the USA ("GROWN, in the USA! Toke a long tall joint from the USA!") not only puts sellers of contraband maryjane out of work but helps our balance of trade. Plus, it probably makes users more placid and manageable.

Oh, and not to mention, when you smoke weed from Mx or points south, you have no idea what chemicals or impurities are in it. We'll have the USDA inspecting USA grown weed for purity; more value to American consumers.
All those people who mouth off about capitalism: They are generally the first to applaud when an American entrepeneur is busted for growing cannabis sativa hydroponically or in a hidden field. We need those pot growers--they personify the spirit of American capitalism better than any on Wall Street; they are out to free us from being held hostage to drug gangs and syndicates; we should give them a Presidential Freedom Medal instead of arresting them.
Stop Smuggling. Let Americans grow cannabis so the government can sell it to Americans at a profit and lower our taxes. Everybody benefits, except dope dealers and drug cartels.
As for prostitution, under strict governmental and medical supervision it will improve the lives of both prostitutes and clients. There will even be happier marriages, more like those our greatgrandparents had, back when there were sporting houses in every American city, frequented by the cream of society as well as by the working class. And, it will help reduce our taxes.
