A socialist? Romney?? In this day akin to the McCarthyism of 60 years ago when anyone advocating fairness or equality gets tarred and fethered as a socialist, Romney might be the last to be so honored given his elite background, job and income. But... But, there is more than a tinge of socialism at the heart of Mormonism. See this very good even handed analysis.: www.sltrib.com/sltrib/opinion/51308137-82/mormon-book-poor-saints.html.cspFrom Troy Williams article, quote-- " Redistribution is not an anomaly in Mormon scriptures. Joseph Smith declared that "It is not given that one man should possess that which is above another, wherefore the world lieth in sin." (Doctrine and Covenants 49:20).
"For any conservative this is surely commie talk! Yet Smith persisted, "If you are not equal in earthly things ye cannot be equal in obtaining heavenly things" (D&C 78:5-6).
"Early Mormon leaders advocated a United Order to redistribute wealth for the benefit of all Saints." op cit. No, Romney has not been questioned about his take on the fundamentals of his church. Maybe because this is too intellectual an inquiry for media or voters, who like their campaigning on a kindergarden level.
