Guess our closet Republican in the White House is in that camp too, because he has pretty much deep-sixed global warming. Whathehay. I won't be alive to see Florida and the east coast disappear under the waves, or the refugees scrambling for high ground.

Here is a very good article that explains what Lindzen says and Lindzen's place in global warming theory: www.huffingtonpost.com/bill-chame...._b_1314451.htmlAbout the greenhouse effect and rising temperatures from rising CO2 concentrations in the atmosphere, there is no question. Lindzen is not questioning that. The question is how much temperatures will rise with global warming. Lindzen says that the seas will produce a buffering iris effect that will hold temperature increases on the low side. There is dispute on whether and how much Lindzen is right. Remember that one of the first uses of the Cray-1 supercomputer was at NOAA. Weather phenomena are extremely complex. While there is a greenhouse effect and global warming, it is not certain how much or how fast temperatures will be elevated. Global warming is alive and well, even if Lindzen is right. But is he right? And if so, how much is he right? If Lindzen is right, then we should be concerned about global warming and take steps to fight it. If he is not right, then it's panic time.

The Huffington Post piece was quite kind to Lindzen and the iris hypothesis. Try this, which is less kind: www.skepticalscience.com/print.php?n=1164But the point is this: Lindzen is in the global warming camp. His idea is that the effect will be less because of his hypothesized iris effect. Actually, if Lindzen is correct, then maybe we CAN do something to slow or stop the effects of global warming, by cutting the production of CO2. If he is wrong, then about alll we can do is to eat, drink, and make whoppee, because our descendants are in hot water. Look LbkGOPer, we are on a ship that is holed. You say the leak is not too bad and that we can make port before the ship goes down, so we don't need to try patching it. Most say the leak is bad and the ship will go down while we are still in the middle of the ocean if we don't lighten ship and try to patch the hole. Neither side convinces the other. So what do we do? Whistle and see when we in fact go down?
