whether mr zimmerman was racist in what he did is not the issue. for him, the only issue is whether he was justified in shooting martin. since zimmerman is the only and best witness, there is no case against him, and if charges are brought, he will be aquitted.
the issue of racial discrimination comes in for the officials involved in the case. from the first, they were eager to accept the shooting as justified, presumably because it was a young black male who was shot. when they described the shooting to martin's father, they left out crucial details. they failed to collect and preserve evidence, and to interview partial witnesses near the scene.
the protests need to be directed against local florida officials and not zimmermann, in my opinion.
