As I said with regard to 9-11: "Get over it!"
One of the fill-in news anchors this weekend was talking abouy how to prevent tragedies like this. Well, balls! You don't prevent them. You can't prevent them. You can make it harder for them to happen, but you do not prevent.
If the school were better secured, say with crashproof locked exterior and interior doors, it could have happened in the parking lot before or after school.
The problem was and is two fold. One, there are mental health issues. Two, there is a weapons issue. Addressing neither will prevent further shootings.
What could have prevented this was if the shooter's mother had not had guns of that type accessible to a son who was unstable. So blame her most of all. If she had not owned those guns or if they were locked in a secure gun safe to which her son had no access, most likely this would never have happened on the scale it happened.
I persist in saying that the presence of a weapon produces this kind of event, that it is not only the man but the gun.
